2、Can I add one currently playing in her national team?
Salinas of France.  (posted by Murina)

3、She is by arguably, by far, the most complete player in the world. She has wonderful hands, she is an exciting blocker, she can attack in any given play, she is a great digger. What else can you ask a player for? She is what we call in spanish "un garbanzo de a libra". She is one of the most unique players in the world and I do not believe any one will disagree that she must be voted as our best setter and world MVP.

By the way, did everyone noticed that Mexico won their WCH first round qualification in Guatemala? They were foolish enough to finish first....and move into the 2nd round tourney against the USA, Canada, Pueto Rico and another lower ranked team. If they would have finished 2nd in this first round tourney their path to the WCH would have been easier.....the 2nd round tourney for the 2nd place team includes Cuba, DR, Costa Rica and a lower ranked team. Mexico could have easily beaten Costa Rica and the other lower ranked team thus qualifying to the WCH by finishing 3rd. But no....the fools had to loose their chance and win a tourney of lower ranked teams and feel that they are by far superior and win the tournament and then compete against 3 teams that they have not beaten in recent years. I am wondering what went through the Mexican coaching staff when they decided to win this qualifying round. I am hoping for a mircale to happen and that Mexico speared by the brilliant Bibi Candelas will beat either Canada and Puerto Rico and earn a spot in next year's WCH.

Regards to all volleyball fans worldwide.

4、You must be refering to Feng in the above post. ?

I noticed that about Mexico also! I don't know anything about Costa Rica.

One thing that bothers me is that if Canada earns a trip to Japan they probably won't send their best players. Soucy and Gordon are not with the national team, and Pavan probably will stay with Nebraska in November... It stinks for Mexico...

But you can't have Mexico throwing matches, it would look really bad for Acosta.(posted by Murina)

5、Thanks for your comments Murina!! What do you think about Feng Kun?

6、in fairness to maria sheshenina, she played very well for an amateur during the athens olympics...(by LeeRah)

Salinas of France.[/quote]

I agree with you Murina,
for me Salinas is one of the best setter in the world, she can play amazingly fast!!

For me the best setter is Salinas if wee concentrate only on the quality of the sets and the creativity.

But Kun Feng is "the most valuable setter"! She is very strong at bloc and have a good serve. (by jo11)

8、Hi Murina and Jo11.
Unfortunately from the emails sent into me a few weeks back the players in the list are the most popular. Salinas of France was not mentioned to me at all. So that is the reason why she is not in the list.
Also maybe because France have not been in the limelight much not many people have seen Salinas play.
I hope this is a good enough explanation for you.
I would like to present as many of these trophies to the players in early June so that is why the setter poll is so short.

9、Eire,

Fair enough. I guessed that was why she wasn't there.

As far as Feng goes, I think she is the best setter going right now.

I would have said Fernanda except she's no longer in the NT (and she blew it against Russia in a way I never thought she would). And I think Fofao is better than both of them, but I don't know how much Fofao is going to be in the NT this year.

Actually Fafao is best when playing in the Superliga. The NT doesn't allow her to strut her stuff as much as she did domesticly.
(by Murina)

10、Wow that is interesting, the fact that you think Fafao is better than Kun adn Venturini. You mihgt have a few people arguing that one with you but I have not seen enough of Venturini or Fafao to disagree with you but it is an interesting comment.
Brazil needs to get a first team setter sorted soon or they will not be a solid team. Now that the idea of Erika seems as though it is gone out the window they need to make a decision on it pronto.

11、Yeah, I'm interested to hear what a brasilian thinks on the subject. I'm talking about just setting. I'm not factoring blocking in at all.

I got to see a MRV/Minas match from 2002 when Fofao was running the team. They were playing at a speed matched only by Brasil's men's team in 2004. Like Ricardo, Fofao was able to fling fast tempo sets from just about anywhere in the gym! The kind of agility that neither Feng nor Fernanda have.

Brasil's NT has never quite played at that kind of speed. It wasn't worth the risk to go THAT fast. Fernanda's setting is so close to being as good as Fofao, that her extra height more than made up for the difference in agility, and setting.

I would have started Fernanda also, but as far as agility, location and vision - I've never seen another woman as good as Fofao was that day.

12、Hello,

According to a brazilian online newspaper*, Erika has decided to quit her plans of being a setter. At least for the moment. She couldn´t find a team interested in her playing as a setter**. Ze Roberto and her also think that training her along with another 3 setters in the national team wouldn´t work well. So they decided that she should take a break in this first semester. If Ze Roberto considers apropriate, she can return to the national team in the second semester. She is negotiating with teams from Russia, Brazil and Italy to play as a hitter.

See you...

Pedro.

(**) In Brazil the players are ranked according to the number of points (of quality) they have. The points range from 1 to 7. This system has "distributional" purposes. No team can have more than a total of 32 points. More, they can´t have more than two 7-points players. Erika for instance is a 7 point player. This means it is too "expensive" for a team to have Erika as a setter. She claims that she should have her level reduced in order to be more attractive to teams as a setter.

13、
Hi,

We have a very young setter, Ana Tiemi (1,88!) who is training with the national "juvenil" (junior?) team. Acctually, she´s the captain of the team and she´s only 17 years old! I do think she is our future... but in the long run. We have some other excelent and tall setters that are more experienced than her. Besides Marcelle (1,81) and Carol Albuquerque (1,82), one of wich will be the main setter of the team in Beijing, we have Fenandinha (1,74), Danielle Lins (1,83) and Fabiola (1,84). As Ana Tiemi, Fernandinha, Fabiola and Danielle, in that order, were present in all sub-categories ("infanto" and "juvenil") of the national teams. That means they have been prepared to substitute Fernanda and Fofao since they were babies (I´m kidding)! As the second setter for Beijing I bet all my money in Fabíola. But, after the Olimpics I think we will have a really hard competition between Fabíola, Danielle and Ana Tiemi (wich is good, by the way).

Best regards,

Pedro Lucas.

14、wow. can't believe people voted for sheshenina while nobody did for ah mow. (by JOJO)

15、That does seem strange...  (by Murina)

16、I think the reason is that Sheshenina is much younger than Ah Mow and already equal or even better   ( by Matthias)

17、Well Murina, Eire and others,

My opnion about this discussion about Fernanda, Fofão and Feng is that:

Fofão beats Fernanda in set quickness and ball touch. But Fernanda, in my honest opinion, has better court vision and precision than Fofão. Both are simply perfect in set distribution. So, for me, they are pratcally tied( maybe with a shy advantage to Venturini). Of course, if we count Fernanda´s height advantage, she will win.

About Feng Kun: She´s really excelent. Her settings are quick, especially for Yanam Liu, and she´s very tricky. But I don´t think she´s as agile as Fernanda and Fofão. Also, both Brazillian setters knows how to deal better when the reception is not perfect.

Still about Fofão: she will play, but only on the 2nd semester and I don´t know which tournaments. This 1st semester, Zé Roberto will test new players in the position. Carol Albuquerque, a left-handed setter, is the favourite to be the 1st setter. But the young Danielle Lins also has chances to be the main setter. Marcelle Rodrigues is back, but I don´t think she will be so used this time.

The other promisse, Ana Tiemi, may get a chance, but first, she need to prove herself in the Junior World Championship, where she will have tough adversaries, such as China and Italy. But I´m confident in her and her junior teammates...
